Local Sites

Hull Daily Mail . . . the website of this ever-popular regional evening paper. Loads of links to everything of local interest.

VISIT HULL & EAST YORKSHIRE . . . is the official source of tourism information for Hull, Bridlington, Beverley, the Yorkshire Wolds, and surrounding areas.

UK Business Directory . . . an on-line directory of thousands of UK businesses; a sort of A to Z of business; manufacturing, retail, and service; registration with them is free if you give a reciprocal link. Brilliant idea!

Paul & Sue's Personal Favourites

STAGECOACH (HULL) CAMERA CLUB . . . an excellent Camera & Photographic club, with this first-rate site. It's site is maintained by Keith Bilton, who posts up monthly competition entries and winners. There are often local views of Hull and the East Riding to be seen here not found elsewhere. A high standard of photography here, and well worth a visit.

BROOKLANDS PHOTOGRAPHIC CLUB ... essentially, what used to be Reckitt's Photographic Society from the old days when they met at the clubhouse on Chamberlain Road. Now a thriving club with some 40 members who meet in the Methodist Church in Sutton. Their photos and monthly competition entries are well worth a look.

SUTTON & WAWNE MUSEUM . . a link to the two villages through the museum inside The Old School in Sutton. Popular for researching local family history. Stoneferry and Cleveland St were once within Sutton parish, which extended right down to Witham and back up Dansom Lane.

For lovers of chocolate, here's a site to die for . . .
THORNTONS . . . is so well known here it needs no introduction in the UK, but those abroad who feel deprived of English chocolate will be able to smell it on this site!

HULL ROYAL INFIRMARY . . aka HRI . . AND ALSO . . Castle Hill Hospital on the same link

Other Useful Links

The Citizens Advice Bureau . . . now have an excellent Website and should be consulted on all manner of legal questions in the first instance. Before you lay out expensive charges for a solicitor, check this site out. You may well get your questions answered here . . . or at least a pointer in the right direction.

DIVING ... the main UK internet resource for divers, everywhere. Sea conditions, latest news, diving-related adds, wreck-of-the-week, and more.

Old Maps . . on-line! . . . earliest ones from 1884 .. for towns and cities all over England. Check out what your street looked like, or field, a hundred years ago.

FLIGHT RADAR 24 ... real-time air traffic control maps and flights. See how busy it is at Heathrow, or how many aircraft are in the air at any one time over Europe. Site includes photos to most aircraft.

MARINE TRAFFIC ... similarly, a site for shipping, showing the position and course of most of the world's shipping. When the map loads, select one of the green grid squares, and use the mouse wheel to zoom in. More info than you can shake a stick at. Click on the square for the English Channel and drag the map around to see what the traffic is like. Plus hundreds of ship photos as well, sometimes several dozen on just one ship.
